Fanart: Sketch of "The Reaper" ♥
Here's a sketch I did last night of C. Thomas Howell as "The Reaper" in "Criminal Minds" and I think it totally sucks!

I posted it on Facebook and tagged CTH in it, not realizing it would appear on his page.

The caption read: "Crappy sketch of "The Reaper". Be gentle! I haven't drawn anything in nearly 10 years!! Sorry for making you look like an ape, Tom!"

This morning, he commented on my drawing on Facebook.

C Thomas Howell "crappy"??? C'mon now.....
Thank you very much....
It's awesome.."

I suspect he was just being nice but, I promised him I'd work on a better one.

♥ Thanks for the compliment, though, Tom!! It made my day! ♥

That's pretty awesome that he commented on it!

It made me "squeee", then go "oh..maybe he's just being nice and thinking "why must my fans make me appear so grotesque?!"

(toughest critic)

Is he on Twitter too perhaps?
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 06:08 pm (UTC)
There are several accounts on Twitter claiming to be him but I think he has one (which he never updates). He's basically said Facebook is his main way of keeping in touch with his fans.

OMG. I'm so ecstatic for you. That's very exciting. (I know the feeling because there's a certain '80s rockstar who keeps in touch with me and who likes going through my photos, among other things.) "Squee" would be an understatement if it were me. I wouldn't be able to wipe the grin off my face for at least a few days afterward!
And it's beautiful, really. It makes me seriously consider going back to drawing and sketching more often. You're good!!
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 06:59 pm (UTC)
Last night I hated it and was like "I'm never drawing again" but after seeing his comment, I was like "ya'know what? I'm going to practice my ass off so I can impress the pants off of him with the next one!"

That is soooo cool! Congrats and I think the drawing shows a lot of promise.
Without knowing anything else about the drawing, I would have said it was an excellent original character.
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 10:53 pm (UTC)
Thanks...as stated, it's been 10 years so it's a rough start but I'm now determined to get and do better!

If you are interested, there is a pretty supportive, infomative LJ art community. I believe it's called "Art Beta". If you get stuck, have questions and such, there are a lot of talented artists who can give advice.

Every piece you do teaches you something - enjoy your journey! : )

Ooo, thanks so much..I'll look into it!

Sweet! It's really cool that he likes it!
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 10:53 pm (UTC)
I hope he actually does like it and wasn't just being nice but it gave me a boost and encouraged me to try again and do better.

He's such a nice guy!

That is so totally awesome! Both the drawing and the fact he commented on it! It's so great when actors and stuff are cool like that. :D
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 11:06 pm (UTC)
I'm still not happy with the drawing but I'm now determined to do better.

But I agree...he was so kind and awesome, it encouraged me to try again.

It's so rare to find celebrities who will actually acknowledge you...and I thought he'd be a dick since he's been "around" for so long..but he's so down to earth and nice.
Sick, Twisted, and F**king Hilarious: Foyettook_skye on February 9th, 2010 11:17 pm (UTC)
Well I think it kicks butt and so does he, haha! (After all, he did take the time to comment on it, right?)

That's very true, most don't bother...I understand some, of course, cause they have lots of fans and such (and then there's potential for crazies), but it's so great when they keep in touch with their fans on a somewhat personal level. I'm really pleased to see he's one who makes time for his fans.

Haha, you'd be surprised who is and isn't a dick in Hollywood. Some of the longtime, bigtime, stars you'd think wouldn't be into their fans (whether because they seem like a-holes or cause they just have so many) are really down-to-earth and sweet and others who you'd expect to be cool just, haha, aren't.
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 11:20 pm (UTC)
Heh, well I've had "bad" experiences with celebrities in the past. Most of the ones I met or got in contact with just ignored me or were rude.

Tommy is the first to acknowledge and encourage me...which is good because when I publish my book, it's getting made into a movie and I want him involved somehow (director, producer, preferably acting in it)...
Sick, Twisted, and F**king Hilarious: Foyettook_skye on February 9th, 2010 11:32 pm (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear that....it sucks when you have bad experiences with idols and everything. But I do know there are good ones out there - I've been lucky enough to have good experiences myself.

Haha, see, there you go! The celebrities that've been cool to their fans get to be in the movie! ...Will he get to do his own stunts? Cause I'm sure he'd like to! :D
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 11:34 pm (UTC)
Sure, if he wants to...if I have any say in it (which I hope to, by not just being the screenplay writer, because they have ZERO say in anything)

Which is why I'd like to partner up with him somehow...he has his own production company so maybe I could send him my novel and say "hey, let's make this a movie together" and we could call all the shots!
Sick, Twisted, and F**king Hilarious: Foyettook_skye on February 9th, 2010 11:45 pm (UTC)
Haha, cool! Ah, well, the trick there is to make sure your contract says you have "creative control/creative input" in it before you sign anything. And just because you write the novel doesn't mean you have to write the screenplay too.

That's not a bad idea...but make sure you research the company first. Not just, you know, knowing it's his but the type of movies they make and the business end of it. ...The best way to approach anyone with a business proposition is by being well-informed in said business. (And you'll impress the pants off him if you know his companies stats ahead of time, haha!) :D
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 9th, 2010 11:49 pm (UTC)
Of course @ creative control/input. I've done some directing/producing/screenplay writing and such before but mostly "just for fun"..but it turned out pretty well.

And good advice re: knowing his company before propositioning..thanks!
Sick, Twisted, and F**king Hilarious: Foyettook_skye on February 9th, 2010 11:58 pm (UTC)
Oh, well, that bit of advice was a tad unneeded, wasn't it? Haha! Ah better to repeat than not mention it at all I guess. :D

You're welcome! :D

For what it's worth I think it's really good and I like it. I started doing this tutorial type book that was suppose to teach realistic drawing and I noticed the closer I got everything to looking real the less I liked it. Because then everyone's shit would end up looking the same if it looked exactly like the real thing. So I like it just the way it is. I think it makes it seem more stylized or whatever. AND OMFG HE COMMENTED ON IT. I TOTALLY THINK HE WAS BEING HONEST AND REALLY LIKED IT. HE IS PROBABLY REALLY FLATTERED! So cool man!
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 10th, 2010 03:08 pm (UTC)
Thanks I guess but I still dislike it.

And yesss, hopefully he was being sincere...even if not, I hope the next one I do of him will win a sincere approval.
Gailbandvamp01 on February 10th, 2010 10:54 pm (UTC)
Hahaha, *I* squee'd for you! Also, I could tell it was him, even if I hadn't been told first. Except that now I wish I could draw or paint because I have a vision of a huge portrait of CTH hanging in my living room XD
Slapstickclear_sarcasm on February 10th, 2010 11:18 pm (UTC)
C. Thomas Howell is awesome..and he makes me determined to do more and better drawings of him (but not so many that I seem like a creepy stalker, because I'm really not).

And thanks, I think. If I ever do a big drawing/painting of him and it comes out well, maybe I'll sell it to you =P

I am my toughest critic, I suppose.

But thanks!
